This was actually supposed to be a new episode of the show but, yadda, yadda, yadda, audio fail, and we decided to feature the chat as an extended ‘Shoot the Shit’ piece instead.

To me it’s really incredible that these guys are still so young but seem to have been around forever. They are real road warriors, highly respected amongst fellow punk bands, and have got to this stage during a time when getting things up and running as a young band can easily get tangled in trivial shit and fall apart.

Big thanks to Scott. Hope you enjoy the read and get out to see them play (with The Strikes!) Go HERE for the interview.

About six years ago, Frank Turner would text his mates to make sure they were coming to see him play down at the pub that weekend. About two weeks ago he played London’s Wembley Arena.

He did it despite having never graced the cover of mainstream music mags, or having a fluke hit song that got used in some crappy TV series soundtrack. All the while he has remained on the same independent record label he started out on.

Instead he just wrote great fucking songs, played anywhere he could, started one tour straight after the last, and did everything he could to connect, both on and off-stage, with the people who took the time to listen.

It’s a pleasure to bring you Episode 32 of D.I.Wireless featuring our interview with Frank where we talk all about that night at Wembley, the tattoos, films and the party that took place, and why, after all this, he is so fucking excited about playing the Darwin Railway Sports and Social Club on his upcoming tour of Australia.

A huge thanks to Frank for taking the time out to chat. If you are reading this – from anywhere – do yourself a favor and catch his tour. He’ll be in a town near you soon enough.

Already preparing to air Episode 32 featuring non other than Mr Frank Turner.

Frank will be the first guest to return to D.I.Wireless having interviewed him just prior to his first tour to Australia as part of The Revival Tour back in 2009. Because of this, I had initially baulked at the chance to speak to him to avoid covering old ground.

But because upcoming Australian Tour with his band The Sleeping Souls featuring some very unique solo shows in rural spots like Cairns, Darwin and Alice Springs, as well as the fact he has now had a little time to digest his feat of playing to a sold out 12,000 capacity Wembley Arena – it was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed.

So the episode will feature a one-on-one chat with Frank as he rolled through Vancouver for yet another engaging and memorable show on his seemingly never-ending tour schedule.

Check back soon to hear it all.

Here is our Record Store Day (APRIL 21) special episode featuring chats with independent store owners and operators from around Australia and here in Canada.

The episode includes short interviews with Matt Horvath from Stolen Youth/Clarity Records, Ray Ahn from The Hard Ons/Utopia Records, Andy Hayden from A Death in the Family/Poison City Records, Paul Voge from We Set Sail/Kill The Music, Graham Nixon from Resist Records and Ben Frith from Bleeding Horse Express/Neptoon Records.

We hear from the guys about what’s going down in their stores for RSD, why they think independent shops have an important role to play, and they also choose tracks from albums they can distinctly remember visiting a record store to pick up. There are some pretty classic song selections here.

And don’t forget our SNEAK PEAK at previously unheard tracks from RSD release from I Exist and ‘Shuffle and Scrape’: A Tribute to Blueline Medic.

This episode was a little different and a blast to put together and I really hope you can take the time to give it a listen. Overall, you should never need and excuse to go to an independent record – but if you did – this is the day.

A HUGE thanks to all of the people who took part in this episode and a shout out to the many other great independent record stores around the country fighting the good fight such as Beatdisc, 78 Records, Blackwire, Landspeed plus many more.

All six episodes will debut on thefestfl.com as well as here at D.I.Wireless - with a new episode online every two weeks.

In October 2011, the makers of D.I.Wireless embarked on a month-long road trip down the east coast of the United States to attend the 10th anniversary of THE FEST in Gainesville, Florida.

Along the way they met a number of bands who make the same pilgrimage year after year to one of the biggest punk rock parties ever forgotten. From tattoos in Asbury Park to hitchhiking in Orlando, the episodes follow the two Australians on a path well-worn by punk bands big and small.

The series captures thoughts about hometown scenes as well as what makes THE FEST so unique – told by those who play the theatres, bars and cafes, but are also part of the debauchery just as much as the thousands of people from around the world who swarm to Gainesville every year.

Bands interviewed as part of the series include The Bouncing Souls, Less Than Jake, Nothington, A Wilhelm Scream and many others. However, the series sountrack also proudly features music from awesome Australian punk and hardcore acts like The Smith Street Band, Stolen Youth, The Tearaways, Driven Fear and Army of Champions.

Video below won’t play? Youtube version is here.

You should never need an excuse to visit a store, but if you did, this is the day.

Episode 31 will feature short interviews with Australian and Canadian record store owners and operators, including Matt Horvath from Stolen Youth/Clarity Records, Ray Ahn from The Hard Ons/Utopia Records, Andy Hayden from A Death in the Family/Poison City Records, Paul Voge from We Set Sail/Kill The Music, Graham Nixon from Resist Records and Ben Frith from Bleeding Horse Express/Neptoon Records.

Tune in to hear these guys share their thoughts on RSD and why getting down to your local independent record store is still important (and totally fucking worth it). They also choose some very interesting, specifically selected songs to play including Guns and Roses, The Saints, NOFX, Metallica, The White Stripes and Toe to Toe. Can you guess who plays what!?

We will also have an EXCLUSIVE (well I can’t find them anywhere else) sneak peek at songs from records store day releases from I Exist and the Blueline Medic tribute ‘Shuffle and Scrape’.

This was a seriously fun episode to put together so I hope you can check it out. Coming soon…

It is an absolute spinout to me that a guy from Russia and has English as a second language ends up hosting a punk radio show in Vancouver with what seems an encyclopedic knowledge of modern bands. I’ve listened to a few of Tim’s shows and he has had some really cool themes for his playlists – something I’d set out to do when I started but never got round to pulling off.

And he said ‘Success!’ twice in the email replying to this interview…I swear to god.

Even more impressive was Tim’s knowledge (and love) for Australian music. The Hard Ons, Stolen Youth, Lungs, The Go Set, The Resignators, Rex Banner, Day Break, Game Over…he fucking knew them all! Nuts.

Thanks Tim! Go here for the interview.
